College Level Examination Program

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is designed for students to earn college credit after completing the exam. The CLEP is a 90-minute test. An unofficial copy of the score report is printed upon departure from the testing room. The College Composition includes 50 multiple-choice questions (50 minutes) and two essays (70 minutes), which allows a total of 120 minutes. Essay results will be ready in approximately six weeks and may be accessed through CLEP. (Numerical scores from the multiple-choice portion of the exam by themselves will not suffice for credit, nor will they guarantee credit).

CLEP is a great way for homeschoolers and stay-at-home parents to earn college credit for a little amount of time and money.

CLEP provides students of any age with the opportunity to gain college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses. UAFS provides this avenue through which above-average students may seek advanced standing. Motivated, independent learners may want to explore the possibility of obtaining credit through CLEP. If you are interested in CLEP, consult your college advisor regarding degree requirements and CLEP credit.

UAFS does not allow credit for all CLEP tests for our degrees. Below is a list of the current CLEP exams that we accept, but ask your academic advisor if CLEP is an option for your degree program. To register for the CLEP exam, visit the CLEP website.

Each CLEP exam is a total of $114 or $129. The CLEP test fee of $89 must be paid directly to CLEP when you register for the test. An administrative fee is payable to UAFS at the Cashier’s Office on the second floor of Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center on the day of testing. Registered students pay $25, and non-registered students pay $40.

To have a CLEP transcript sent to UAFS, send a CLEP Transcript Request form to CLEP or call CLEP at 800-257-9558. There is a $20 transcript fee that can be paid by credit card.

All examinees must present a photo ID to take the CLEP. Examinees testing within their country of citizenship (American students) may bring an unexpired driver's license, current state or federal ID card, or current passport as their primary ID. Those who are not testing in their country of citizenship MUST bring their passport to be tested.

All funded military candidates must present a current military ID and a second form of government-issued photo ID.

If you do not have the required government-issued ID, please complete a Student ID Form, which is valid for one year. The form must be signed in front of a school official or notary and accompanied by a recognizable photo with a school or notary seal overlapping the photo. If you fail to present an appropriate ID, you will not be tested.

CLEP exams are administered by appointment only Monday through Friday. A 48-hour advance notice is required before testing.
