FAQ and Suite Measurements

Roommates

  • On the application, there is a section for you to list people you desire to live with. Please be sure to spell their names correctly.
  • If one of your listed roommates does not come to UAFS, we will do our best to match you with someone based on the Room Assignment Preferences section of the application.
  • We cannot guarantee roommate/ suitemate compatibility, but Housing staff is there to help you and your suitemates have a great year together.
  • We recognize it is a little bit intimidating getting to know someone new, but one of the exciting things about the Lion’s Den experience is learning how to work with someone different from you and perhaps even making a friend or two along the way.
  • We do allow for room changes once the semester starts, but for the first two weeks you cannot move. Use that time to get to know your roommate and to get used to living together.

Staff and Visitors

  • There is either a Resident Assistant or a Front Desk Assistant at the desks during posted hours.
  • There is always a Housing staff member available.
  • There is 1 RA per wing, and that wing is 1 gender. Only members of that wing have access to that wing.
  • All visitors, including parents, must be escorted by the resident. Parents may not bring animals with them (students can only have fish).
  • Visitors of the opposite gender must leave the suite when visitation hours are over. (12:00am Su-Th, 2:00am F-Sa)

Parking

  • Lion’s Den residents do not have reserved parking
  • If you park in any restricted area on campus, your car will be ticketed or towed.

Laundry

  • Laundry is included as part of your room fee. You use the washers and dryers like you normally would at home.
  • The washers are High Efficiency machines, use HE detergent or you may be using too much soap.
  • Please allow at least a 5 minute “grace period” for when someone else’s laundry is finished before you use that machine.
  • If laundry has been in a machine for a long period of time, and you chose to remove it, please keep everything together and pile it nicely on a table.
  • You are encouraged to stay in the laundry room and watch your clothes. Housing staff is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Internet and Cable

  • Internet and Cable are included in the room fee.
  • There is one cable hook-up in each room, i.e. in a double room there is one cable hook-up. The cable offers at least 60 channels.
  • The Lion’s Den has an Ethernet port for every student, i.e. in a double room there are two ports.
  • All residential buildings also offer wireless access. Create a user account per instructions received at move-in.
  • Personal Wireless Networks are NOT ALLOWED at the Lion’s Den. This causes interference with the wireless access points already at the Lion’s Den. Use of a Personal Wireless Network could result in a fine.
  • Remember, that Illegal Downloading is a federal offense and if we are notified of illegal activity, we will pursue disciplinary action.

Dining Hall

  • All on campus residents are required to have a meal plan.
  • The Dining Hall is an “All You Care to Eat” facility. Only paying customers may be inside the Dining Hall.
  • The Dining Hall is open Monday – Friday for breakfast, light breakfast, lunch, light lunch, dinner, and late dinner (not Friday). On Saturday – Sunday it is open for brunch and dinner.
  • The hours of the dining hall are posted. If you make it into the Dining Hall even 1 minute before the posted closing time, you will still have the full buffet from which to choose.
  • Meal Plans
    • Meals per week plans let you, and only you, eat during that many meal periods in the cafeteria per week.
      • If you do not use all swipes for a week they are not credited to you, you cannot make up for those meals later.
    • Block plans let you eat, or swipe for one guest, that many times in the cafeteria per semester.
      • If you plan on eating in the cafeteria every meal, or greater than 10 times per week on average, you will run out of swipes on a 160 Block plan. If you eat more than 5 times per week on average an 80 Block plan will not be enough.
    • Dining Dollars may be used in the food court or at certain off campus vendors. It is nonrefundable.
      • The list of current vendors is available on the Lion’s Cash website.
